WRESTLING: North nets hat trick

PLYMOUTH - Senior Shane LeBlanc, junior Peter Kummer and sophomore Austin Renzi all took home three wins as the North Attleboro High School wrestling team captured three victories in a quadrangular meet at Plymouth Saturday - including a victory over previously-unbeaten Norton.

LeBlanc recorded three pins in winning his three matches, stretching his unbeaten streak to seven this season. Included in that was a dramatic third period victory over Norton High's defending MIAA Division 3 state champion Berett Gallagher in the third period of their 120-pound match to secure the team win for the Rocketeers.

Gallagher scored a quick takedown and took a 4-2 lead into the third period. Gallagher chose the 'down' position to start the final period, but LeBlanc scored on a reversal and finally took a pin with 30 seconds left.

"That was the key," said Norton coach Pat Coleman as the Lancers held a 36-33 lead entering the match, having already forfeited at 106 pounds. "Give LeBlanc credit, he's a tough wrestler."

Kummer won two of his three matches on first period pins, another on a second period pin. Renzi remained unbeaten as well with one pin among his three wins. His best win, though, may have come on a 14-8 victory over Norton's James Cuneo in the 152-pound tussle. The Rocketeers resume their Hockomock League schedule Monday at home against Oliver Ames.
