In second place after the first day of competition, NORTH ATTLEBORO ended up with 168 team points for third place. Senior co-captain Shayne LeBlanc had the team's highest placement at 120 pounds as he went 3-1 over the two-day tournament, finishing runner-up. LeBlanc made the finals but was edged out by Hingham High's Mike Mui, last year's New England's runner-up. Michael Anderson went 3-2 for fourth place as well for North.

"I was pretty happy with the kids. We had a lot of youngsters a match away from the medal round. They're turning the corner," said North coach Wayne Griffin. "And that's not just a wrestling term, experience-wise these kids are figuring it out. Squad-wise, this is pretty big for our team."

The Rocketeers also had other placements from Bobby Deveau and John David, who were both 4-2 for fifth, while Steven Hathaway, Andrew McLoughlin and Peter Kummer were all 4-3 for eighth place in their respective weight classes. "I think the teams like North Andover and Norton had a lot more seniors and are geared to go deeper in a tournament like this. Coach (Pat) Coleman has done a really nice job with that Norton team. They have a good group of kids who work hard," added Griffin, whose Rocketeers incidentally beat Norton in a dual-meet earlier this season 36-33.

North Attleboro (9-0) returns to dual-meet action on Saturday morning (10), hosting King Philip.

Team results: 1-North Andover 230.5 points, 2-Norton 220.5, 3-North Attleboro 168, 4-Plymouth South 163, 5-Pembroke 159, 6-Bridgewater-Raynham 155.5, 7-Marshfield 146.5, 8-New Bedford 135, 9-Brockton 134.5, 10-Weymouth 118.
