WRESTLING: Rocketeers knock back Franklin
The Sun Chronicle
FRANKLIN - The worm may have turned in the wrestling world.
For the first time in a long time, Franklin High suffered a regular season defeat, falling to North Attleboro 52-19 Wednesday night.
"The kids are excited, and the coaches are very happy," said North coach Wayne Griffin, whose club improves to 4-0 on the young season.
The match was close in the beginning, with the Panthers winning four of the first seven matches, but first-year wrestler Chris Hunter won by pin at 145 pounds to send the Rocketeers on a seven-match winning streak to close out the match.
"Our kids were in better shape, we've been working them hard over the past 21/2 weeks," said Griffin. Michael Anderson won a big match early in the meet, taking his 285-pound bout despite weighing in around 220 pounds. North's senior trio of Anderson, Shane LeBlanc (120) and John David (132) are all undefeated.
The Panthers were state semifinalists last year after winning the state title two years ago.
