Rocketeers add league feather

NORTH ATTLEBORO - It's been a nice few weeks for the North Attleboro High wrestling program.

The Red Rocketeers secured career win No. 300, a Hockomock League tournament championship and, in a 68-6 win over Foxboro on Wednesday night, the league title was theirs. North improved to 19-2 overall and 8-0 in the league in the dominant effort, enduring only a single loss on the night

"The past three weeks have been fantastic," said North coach Wayne Griffin. "It's all great practice as we start to gear up for the postseason."

At 113 pounds, freshman Jack DiPietro earned his first varsity win, at 37 seconds into the contest. Also encouraging was the successful return of Andrew McLaughlin at 126. After missing time due to injury, he defeated a skilled Warrior wrestler in John O'Neil, who took fourth at the league championships last weekend.

North earned 10 pins in all, while relenting only a single pin to Foxboro's Jon Coleman at 138 pounds.

Next up for the Red Rocketeers is the Division 2-South Individual Tournament at Whitman-Hanson on Saturday, which also determines seeding for the team tournament, a "double-edged sword," as Griffin called it. "We're really shooting for a number one seed coming out of our section. It is going to be the most important Saturday we've had all year."
